Django Unchained galloped into theaters Christmas Day with all the swagger and style expected of a Quentin Tarantino movie. In building an iOS app to promote the movie, Envoy Inc. turned to Oddcast to incorporate our VideoStar technology. The idea was to allow users to instantly inject faces from their phonecam into segments of the movie – to create a “personal trailer” starring themselves. To incorporate our technology, normally implemented in Flash, Oddcast developed an API for the Movie Maker portion of the app which allowed seamless integration with the iOS app.
[Oct 1 2013 update: The app is no longer available in the iTunes store. View a sample video here.]
Try it yourself: After downloading the Django Unchained app to your iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch, tap the Movie Maker option. Select one of three scenes from the movie starring Christoph Waltz (Dr. King Schultz) and Jamie Foxx (Django). Upload your photo using the device’s camera or choosing from your camera roll. After adjusting the photo and processing the video, you will see yourself superimposed as one of the actors in the scene! This is the first time Oddcast has included a person’s real facial hair into VideoStar technology.
