Augmented Reality Goes Social
We've been experimenting with Augmented Reality here at Oddcast recently, as you may have read. This article, When Augmented Reality Goes Social, examines the newest kind of AR: Augmented Reality for Social Networks.
On mobile phones, AG can be used to overlay the phone's live video with relevant information. If you have an iPhone 3GS, you can try it with Yelp, which displays local business complete with ratings and reviews. The Google Android also has a few applications, including Wikitude, which adds Wikipedia articles to the camera's view.
The potential for this technology is exciting: businesses will appear overlaid with peer reviews, landmarks will be seen with a Wikipedia entry on top, we'll decide whether or not to go into a bar based on which of our Twitter contacts are inside.
Augmented Reality isn't just a fun trick anymore; AR can change the way we experience the world.
